Al in 1955 werd de ultrasone scaler in de paradontologie geïntroduceerd. In Nederland is het echter lang stil geweest rondom het gebruik van ultrasone apparatuur binnen de parodontale behandeling. Het heeft tot het einde van de vorige eeuw geduurd voordat de ultrasone unit echt zijn opgang deed bij de behandeling van paro-patiënten.
